Description

Phillip William May was educated at St George's School, Leeds. He painted scenary for the Grand Theatre, Leeds. He came to London in 1882, and then went to Australia in 1885, where he joined the staff of 'The Sydney Bulletin'. He returned to England in 1888, and was on the staff of 'St Stephen's Review' for two years. He travelled in America for the 'Graphic', joined the staff of 'Punch', published the 'Phil May's Review' from 1892, and 'Phil May's Sketch Book' in 1896.
