- Description
-
Dhokra figure of Mahatma Gandhi is depicted by the young Dhokra Damar artist Shubho Karmakar as freedom fighter and hero, with a tribal-style loincloth and his signature staff and round glasses. This Gandhi is barefoot, possibly because the tribal artist normally walks barefoot and to him, even Gandhi’s iconic sandals are a sign of luxury. The figure has a rectangular plinth decorated with small dhokra figures, made from a metal travelling chest, painted with brass-coloured paint.
