Description

Ratul Chandra Gogoi's identity is as a sculptor from Assam. His work is influenced by the traditional folk and tribal art of Assam and he juxtaposes indigenous motifs with contemporary style to illustrate the co-existence in Assam of ancient tribal cultures with contemporary issues and ideas. He uses wood as a medium to symbolise his connection with the folk arts of his culture. His works are vibrant, intensely active; they are very organic, very detailed in an abstract way but with a use of detailed folk images as motifs adn borders.
