Description

The portrait was commissioned to celebrate and commemorate John Glassford's second marriage in 1752 to Ann Nesbit of Dean. The wedding took place in Glasgow. Anne Nesbit was Glassford's second wife. She was also painted into the Glassford family portrait (2887) but later painted over for Glassford's third wife, Lady Margaret Mackenzie.
