Description

Barbara, sometimes known as Baby, Stuart or Stewart was the wearer of items in Glasgow Museums' dress collection. In 1760 she married John Richardson, the son of Thomas Richardson and Beatrix Austin, a prosperous exporter of salmon. The couple lived in Perth, where their son, James, was born in May 1763 and their daughter, Margaret, was born several years later on 27 August 1774. In 1781 John Richardson purchased the Pitfour estate, Perthshire, from John Hay Esq. He subsequently commissioned Pitfour Castle to be built, where the family resided after its completion.
