Description

Woman's bodice, part of dress or wedding dress with matching skirt (E.1982.33.b), in light grey silk woven with cream and black feathers, light grey shot silk and light pink-orange silk crepe, with standing collar in vertically pleated crepe. Centre front bodice with vertically ruched crepe to bust decorated with six rows of steel beads, and patterned silk to waist with outer edge trimmed with triple row of steel cut beads, fastening centre front with nine metal hooks and thread eyes and eleven holes for lacing with silk cord, side panels in shot silk with lapel-style panels either side upper bodice. Full-length sleeves, shot silk gathered into shoulders and above elbow, lower sleeve in patterned silk with turned-up cuffs in shot silk. Slightly v-shaped waistline centre front. Centre back with two long fringe tails in cut steel beads ending in pointed steel beads. Lined in cream silk, grey cotton and grey silk, cream waist tape woven with ‘Neilson, Shaw & MacGregor, Glasgow’.
