Description

Full hull ship model of yacht Lady Torfrida, scale 1:48.

This display model shows the hull, superstructure, masts and rigging of the yacht in red and black painted and varnished wood. The model has a highly detailed superstructure with fully modelled bridge and lifeboats as well as a beautifully carved female figurehead and stern carving. It is supported on two turned metal mounts. The model was exhibited in Glasgow in 1901.

Lady Torfrida was a barquentine-rigged sailing yacht with auxiliary steam engine of 364 tons, built in 1890 by Fairfield Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. Ltd, Govan, for the firm’s chairman Sir William G Pearce. Lady Torfrida was sold 1910 to Compania Valenciana de Vapores Correos de Africa, Valencia, and converted to a passenger ferry and was broken up in 1934.
