Description

Glass and silver sculpture entitled ‘the shadow of the object fell upon the ego’ by Beth Forde, 2007. Glass sculpture made from a mould in a kiln. Silver fixings made by Jim Lambert at Glasgow School of Art. Made for an exhibition at St. Mungo's museum to mark the 200th anniversary of the abolition of transatlantic slavery. In 2007 Beth Forde was awarded an artist’s commission by Glasgow Museums. After a period of research, involving investigation of an object at the David Livingstone Centre in Blantyre, her new work was displayed at St Mungo’s as ‘the shadow of the object fell upon the ego’. This sculpture is accompanied by a photograph (PR.2008.4) with the same title. Each work can be displayed together or individually. If displayed together the works must be displayed opposite one another so that the viewer is positioned between the two objects.
