Description

Isobel Wedderburn was possibly the wearer of items in Glasgow Museums' dress collection. She was born on 9 October 1753 at Pearsie, Angus, the youngest daughter of Robert Wedderburn of Persie (1708–86) and his wife Isobel Edward (1718–88), and was baptized on 10 October in Kingoldrum, Angus. She married Rev. James Stormonth of Kinclune, minister of Airlie, in Dundee on 2 June 1786. The couple had seven children; Isabella who was born on 26 August 1787, Elizabeth born on 20 September 1788, Alexander born on 16 January 1790 (who married his cousin, Elizabeth Stewart, daughter of his maternal aunt, Katherine Wedderburn), Katherine born on 4 May 1791, Jean born on 18 July 1792, Graham born on 8 October 1793 and Margaret born on 15 February 1795. Isobel died on 31 March 1795 at Airlie. Her husband died fourteen years later on 29 December 1809.
