Modern and Contemporary Scottish Art post 2000

Comments

Glasgow Museums has a collection of contemporary Scottish artworks that date from 1997 to the present. This collection reflects acquisitions made since 2000, by artists who have trained, lived and worked in Scotland, including recent Turner Prize and Beck’s Futures Prize winners. These holdings include paintings, sculptures, conceptual art works, installations, moving image and works on paper. Initial works were purchased by the Glasgow Museums’ Contemporary Art Purchase Panel (CAPP) 2002-7, which was established with the aim of acquiring work by artists based in the Glasgow area. During its first phase of collecting, between 2002 and 2007, CAPP purchased work by recent graduates of Glasgow School of Art, as well as work by leading figures in Scottish Contemporary Art, including Simon Starling, Christine Borland, Martin Boyce, Claire Barclay, Roderick Buchanan, Douglas Gordon, Ross Sinclair, Jim Lambie and Victoria Morton. Since then further works have been acquired through the Contemporary Art Fund and supported by awards through Art Fund, Contemporary Art Fund, Henry Moore Foundation and National Fund for Acquisitions to include works by a younger generation of artists working in Scotland. These include Camara Taylor, Rabiya Choudhry, Corin Sworn, Stephen Sutcliffe, Charlotte Prodger and Alberta Whittle.
