Glasgow Museums has a growing collection of around 25 artworks in categories such as I.C.E (Installation, Conceptual and Ephemeral) by British artists. The majority are post 2000 but there may be earlier works as we grow the collection. The categorisation of I.C.E (Installation, Conceptual and Ephemeral) was introduced around 2006 as there was a growing number of contemporary works that did not easily fit into the existing categories. For example, these works could have multiple elements, or no physical presence such as a performance, or instruction to make a work fresh each time. As the complexity of the artworks, we collect grows, so does Glasgow Museums’ processes, systems and understanding of how to bring works such as these into a collection. In 2009 Glasgow Museums collected two performance works by Glasgow based artist David Sherry becoming the first regional museum to collect performance art. As well as performance, we have installations, site specific works, instructions to create work, multiple screen video works, sculptural works with multiple elements, and many more that cannot be easily summed up. Artists within the collection are Beagles & Ramsay, Daphne Wright, Douglas Gordon, Jim Lambie, Martin Boyce, Nathan Coley, Phil Collins and Toby Paterson.
