Modern and Contemporary International Art I.C.E (Installation, Conceptual and Ephemeral)

Comments

Glasgow Museums has a growing collection of around 16 artworks in the category of I.C.E (Installation, Conceptual and Ephemeral) by International artists. The majority are post 2000 but there may be earlier works as we grow the collection. The categorisation of I.C.E (Installation, Conceptual and Ephemeral) was introduced around 2006 as there was a growing number of contemporary works that did not easily fit into the existing categories. For example, these works could have multiple elements, or no physical presence such as a performance, or instruction to make a work fresh each time. As the complexity of the artworks, we collect grows, so does Glasgow Museums’ processes, systems and understanding of how-to bring works such as these into a collection. Within the collection we have performance, installations, site specific works, instructions to create work, multiple screen video works, sculptural works with multiple elements, and many more that cannot be easily summed up. Artists within the collection are Emily Jacir, Fiona Tan, Gerard Byrne, Jenny Holzer, Lawrence Weiner, Matthew Buckingham, Patrica Cronin, Roni Horn and Walid Raad. We also have I.C.E works by British artists please see, CLD Modern and Contemporary Bristish Art I.C.E (Installation, Conceptual and Ephemeral)
