Modern and Contemporary Scottish Art 1945 - 2000

Comments

Glasgow Museums has a significant collection of Scottish artworks that date from 1945 to 2000. As this is a civic collection for the city of Glasgow a significant number of the works are by artists who have trained, lived and worked in the city. There is a focus on figurative painting in Scotland, including work by Joan Eardley, Alasdair Gray, Jack Knox, John Byrne, John Bellany, and Alison Watt. There are also some rare and unique works by the 1980s’ New Glasgow Boys, represented by Peter Howson, Ken Currie, Adrian Wiszniewski and Steven Campbell. Other graduates of The Glasgow School of Art with work in the collection made before 2000 include Christine Borland, Ross Sinclair, Mario Rossi and Douglas Gordon. The collection also includes sculpture and prints by Eduardo Paolozzi, Willie Rodger, Ian Hamilton Finlay, the Boyle Family, Kenny Hunter and Sam Ainsley and photography by Joseph McKenzie, Oscar Marzaroli, Patricia MacDonald and Thomas Joshua Cooper.
