Glasgow Museums has a collection of British artworks from 1945 to 2000. These holdings include sculptures, paintings and works on paper including documentary photography. Notable works were acquired for the collection from Bridget Riley, Beryl Cook, Bruce Lacey, Bruce McLean, Jo Spence and Margaret Mellis and were included in the opening of the Gallery of Modern Art in 1996. Since then further works by Jo Spence and Bruce Lacey were gifted to the collection and works by Conrad Atkinson, Frank Auerbach and Leonard McComb have been acquired for display across Glasgow Museums. As we are based in Scotland there is a focus on work made by artists who were born, have trained, lived and worked here. For more information on this area of the collection please see Modern and Contemporary Scottish Art 1945 to 2000.
