Glasgow Museums has a significant collection of modern and contemporary art and design. These holdings encompass works that date from 1945 to the present, made by artists from across the globe. This collection comprises paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, photography, ceramics, glass, textiles, furniture, jewellery, film, video, installation, conceptual and ephemeral works. Between them, they reflect art movements from American and British Pop Art to Conceptual Art and Nouveau Réalisme. The international art is particularly broad in scope and ranges from artists such as Andy Warhol, Henri-Cartier Bresson, Patricia Cronin, Matthius Kauage and Hong Song Dam. More recently the International Art Collection has been developed to include works by Wolfgang Tilmans, Hito Steyerl, Barbara Kruger, Peter Hujar, Sharon Hayes and Hal Fischer. The British Art collection has important works by David Hockney, Bridget Riley, Conrad Atkinson, Maud Sulter, Andy Goldsworthy and John Akomfrah. Scottish Art includes work by The Glasgow School of Art graduates Alasdair Gray, Joan Eardley and Carole Gibbons in addition to the ‘New Glasgow Boys’ - represented by Peter Howson, Ken Currie, Adrian Wiszniewski and Steven Campbell, sculpture and prints by Eduardo Paolozzi and photographs by Oscar Marzaroli and Thomas Joshua Cooper. The International Art collection includes a significant body of art work through the Art Fund International collecting scheme (2007 -12) by artists Barbara Kruger, Emily Jacir, Wolfgang Tillmans, Lothar Baumgarten and Fiona Tan with more recent acquisitions by Hito Steyerl, Sharon Hayes, Walter Price and Anne Collier. The collection also holds a number of works by Turner Prize nominees and winners, including Simon Starling, Douglas Gordon, Martin Boyce, Christine Borland, Karla Black, Charlotte Prodger and Alberta Whittle.
