Description

Vivien Hamilton joined Glasgow Museums in 1987 and is Research Manager for Art, responsible for Glasgow Museums’ significant collection of Fine Art and Decorative Arts as well as European Costume and Textiles.

Vivien graduated from the University of Glasgow and is currently an Honorary Research Fellow in the University Department of History of Art. Her research interests include European art 1800-1950 and Scottish art 1880-1950, with particular interests in provenance research and the history of collectors and collecting. She has researched Scottish collectors in the United States and was responsible for compiling the lists of works in Glasgow Museums whose provenance is unclear in the period 1933-1945. Her publications include Joseph Crawhall 1861-1913 – One of The Glasgow Boys (1990), Boudin at Trouville (1992) and Millet to Matisse, Nineteenth-and Twentieth-Century French Painting from Kelvingrove Art Gallery, Glasgow (2002).

Vivien is currently researching Sir William Burrell’s collection of French 19th century oils, pastels and works on paper.
