Description

Dr Jo Meacock joined Glasgow Museums as Curator of British Art in 2012 with a remit including painting, sculpture, prints and drawings. Her specialism lies in 19th-century and early 20th-century British art, with a particular interest in Pre-Raphaelitism, Aestheticism, women artists, Scottish art movements and religious iconography.

Jo was awarded a MA and PhD in History of Art at the University of Glasgow, where she also gained a PGCert in Academic Practice. She taught for several years at the university and became a research assistant on projects including The Correspondene of James McNeill Whistler and Exhibition Culture in London 1878–1908. She went to become the Data Editing Manager for the National Inventory Research Project, Research Associate for James McNeill Whistler: The Etchings: A Catalogue Raisonné and Editor for Mapping the Practice and Profession of Sculpture in Britain and Ireland 1851–1951. She became the Glasgow Museums catalogue coordinator for the Public Catalogue Foundation (now ArtUK) and then its Scottish Regional Research Manager. She is currently a Trustee of the Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Trust.
